Amboseli National Park lies immediately North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro, on the border with Tanzania. The park covers 392 km2 and forms part of the much larger 3,000 km2 Amboseli ecosystem. Large concentrations of wildlife occur here in the dry season, making Amboseli a popular tourist destination.
Generally hot and dry fanned by a cool breeze. Long rains are anticipated from mid April to May and the short rains from November to early December. Minimum temperature of 28° and maximum of 33° Celsius.
The main road into the park from Nairobi is via Namanga (240km) on the Nairobi-Arusha road, through Meshanani gate. The other road is via Emali (228km) on the Nairobi-Mombasa road.
